- champion. He stole 118
- bases with the St. Louis
- Cardinals in 1974, and retired with 938
- career steals. (Rickey Henderson broke
- LouΓÇÖs major league single-season record in
- 1982, with 130 steals, and his career record
- in 1991.)

- Lou was dangerous in the batterΓÇÖs box as
- well as on the base paths. He joined the
- Cardinals during the 1964 season, after a
- little more than two seasons with the
- Chicago Cubs. That season, Lou batted
- .315, with 111 runs scored, 200 hits, 30
- doubles, 11 triples, and 43 stolen
